THE AFFAIR #3: GUNTHER

Recently, we had with my friends a debate about the affair3. In a cold night, with food,wine and smokes, something like Juliette's dinners, Alice , a tv freak like me , insisted that ''the affair'' is just the ultimate defeat of the women when they chose to ''hunt'' guys like Noah or vice versa, women like Alison, women with much complicated characters to make a relationship with. The new obsessed Helen is just the typical woman who lost the battle and wants back her little toy. Noah just trying to justify his polygamy notes with the psychological problems, the producers try to ''fix'' the Noah character after the events of the second season. Alison and Cole staying in the shadows of the third season, give all the spotlight again on Noah and the road to rebirth to a new Noah?

Some of that stuff, i totally agree. I dont like Noah, especially after all that cheating to Alison. A guy who just wants to have an affair, without the seriousness of a marriage, is a man who doesnt even care to see his children, and i dont think that all the blame and the self-stabbing is the result of a three years prison. No. Noah did shit things and before the prison. Before Gunther, and here, we all agree that Brendan Fraser was absolutely astonishing!

So, Gunther was the embodiment of the fragile, maybe guilty subconsiousness of a man who cant hold his dick long enough or Gunther was just the spark to unveil the true character of a lonely man with many issues? The new woman, Juliette in the ''affair'', is not the kind of woman who Noah will fall in love. No way. 

I dont understand why Alison is now just a mother with the only ambition to get back her daughter,

a total stranger for Noah, like all this, never happen. A complicate character like Alison, choose to stay with Noah just for one day, a reminder of their affair, 

and then wants officially divorce? Out of the character and the dynamic Helen who sudenly wants Noah back after all those years? 

I understand why the female crowd of the dinner, they didnt like the third season of the ''affair''. On the other hand, i enjoy every second of the episodes. I have met women like Helen or Alison, and the moods of their characters are just the signs of the damaged goods. When your life is on the right path, admit it, dont you want, even for a moment, to revive a passionate affair? to reclaim the only thing that makes you feel alive and whole, even if deep inside you know that this feeling is gone for good? I will stay with the final scene of the last episode. Noah inside a cab. Alone on Christmas Eve. And now what?      9,5/10
