The main question of ''Gypsy'' is not ''who are you when no one is watching'' but rather ''where are you when no one is watching'', especially when Jean falls for Sidney, a main singer and a bad girl
with the tendency to seduce Jean in dirty toilets of dark places, but, lets start from the beginning. Jean have a beautiful family and she works as a phd therapist, when one day decides to overstep personal and professional boundaries, getting to close with the ''tormentors'' of her patients under the alias Dianne Hart. It sounds compelling, but a catchy plot tangled with a slow pace and even a much more boring look, and the only thing that makes me see ''gypsy'' is the outstanding performance of Sophie Cookson as Sidney. The woman responsible for breaking hearts and send people to the shrink.
The wrong kind of shrink, because Jean is ready to feel like her patient and feels what it means to live under the shadow of Sidney. Its not only Sidney. Jean is interested to meet the daughter that dont want to have anything with her mother, so, what better idea to become friends in the salon? ..And this is is the play of Jean. A noisy Jean who just wants to break free of her workaholic husband
and her role as a mother and dive into other's people lifes. Trailer.
The structure of ''Gypsy'' has many problems, such as tiresome connections and naivity of Jean when she becomes Dianne. There is no stamp for this, is it a psychological thriler? a lesbian love story? I think that if it has a better sense of what ''gypsy'' is, it will be a success, but right now is just another role for Naomi Watts. Its summer, if you dont have anything else to see...
