CHILDHOODS END: BRING FORTH THE CHILDREN

"Childhood's end" is not the first time that has preoccupied both creators with the adaptation and the public, as the novel by Arthur C.Clarke 1953 brings into conflict both religious beliefs and the total annihilation of free will. Human culture and tradition. The Syfy  channel brings to the small screen "Childhood's End" in the form of a three-part-mini series. Though usually not my reviews concerning mini series, here I will make an exception. Peaceful alien invasion, bringing with them gifts to mankind, and forty vessels to hover in forty cities like patrons in their earthly children.

 The aliens get the name Overlords and bring Utopia to a planet free from wars, disease, hostile acts. Someone could call them "God send" if there was not the matter of appearance -too familiar to human culture- as the sprinkled with stardust history of Revelation conceals the final plan of the Overlords, therefore and the title. Charles Dance in the role of Karellen, and a good choice of cast trying this time the television adaptation of Childhoods End to find the success. The absolute leveling of human culture and the acceptance of "philanthropists" aliens as the creation of Utopia on Earth ceases to be just a dream, presented in a masterly way in the first two parts, with some hints of what is going to happen. The third and last part find me totally opposed. So much emotional to the point that you forget what you see, so surreal with absolute damaging installments all in a lyrical rhythm. Once Kubrick had expressed interest in the film adaptation of Childhoods End, but Clarke's Space Odyssey won him over! In addition, the Only reason to justify the third part is the way that leads to the end.

 It confronts you with religious issues. The existence of God. The existence of life. If someone gave you all the gifts of life will use them to evolve and climb the stair that seperates you from God or would you settle for a lazy UTOPIA enjoying a much more carefree life? And how will you react when these offered gifts are from someone in the form of Satan?

 Spectacular, but hard to properly present the concerns of the novel in a television adaptation which spents unbelievably too much time in the earthly representative of the Overlords, Ricky.

To Childhoods end δεν ειναι η πρώτη φορά που έχει απασχολήσει τόσο δημιουργούς με το adaptation όσο και κοινό, καθώς η νουβέλα του Arthur C.Clarke του 1953 φέρνει σε σύγκρουση τοσο τα θρησκευτικά πιστεύω όσο και το total annihilation της ελεύθερης βούλησης. Της ανθρώπινης κουλτούρας και παράδοσης. Το Syfy φέρνει στη μικρή οθόνη το Childhoods End σε μορφή mini series-three part story-και αν και συνήθως τα review δεν αφορούν mini series, εδώ θα κάνω μια εξαίρεση. Ειρηνική alien invasion, φέρνοντας μαζί τους δώρα για την ανθρωπότητα, και σαράντα σκάφη να αιωρούνται σε σαράντα πόλεις σαν προστάτες στα γήινα παιδιά τους.

 Οι aliens παίρνουν το όνομα Overlords και φέρνουν την Utopia σε έναν πλανήτη free απο πολέμους, αρρώστιες, εχθρικές πράξεις. God send θα μπορούσε να πει κάποιος αν δεν υπήρχε το θέμα της εξωτερικής εμφάνισης-too familiar για την ανθρώπινη κουλτούρα-καθώς η πασπαλισμένη με stardust ιστορία της Αποκάλυψης κρύβει και το τελικό σχέδιο των Overlords εξου και ο τίτλος.  Charles Dance στο ρόλο του Karellen, και μια πλοιάδα καλού cast στην προσπάθεια αυτή τη φορά το τηλεοπτικό adaptation του Childhoods End να βρει την επιτυχία. Η απόλυτη ισοπέδωση της ανθρώπινης κουλτούρας και η αποδοχή των ''φιλάνθρωπων'' aliens καθώς η δημιουργία της Utopia στη Γη παύει να ειναι όνειρο,δίνεται με αριστοτεχνικό τρόπο στα δύο πρώτα μέρη, με κάποια hints  για το τι πρόκειται να συμβεί. Απόλυτα αντίθετο με βρίσκει το τρίτο και τελευταίο μέρος. Πολύ συναισθηματικό σε σημείο που ξεχνάς τι βλέπεις, σουρεαλιστικό με δόσεις απόλυτης καταστροφολογείας και όλα αυτά σε ένα ρυθμό λυρικό. Κάποτε ο Kubrick είχε εκφράσει ενδιαφέρον για την κινηματογραφική του μεταφορά, αλλά τον κέρδισε το Space Odyssey-του Clarke επίσης!-ο μόνος λόγος για να δικαιολογήσω το τρίτο μέρος του Childhoods End και τον τρόπο που σε οδηγεί στο τέλος.

 Σε φέρνει αντιμέτωπο με θρησκευτικά ζητήματα. Υπαρξη Θεού. Υπαρξη ζωής. Αν κάποιος σου έδινε όλα τα δώρα της ζωής θα τα χρησιμοποιούσες για να εξελιχθείς και να ανέβεις το σκαλί που σε χωρίζει απο το Θεό η θα βολευόσουν σε μια τεμπέλικη ουτοπια απολαμβάνοντας μια πολύ πιο ξένοιαστη ζωή; Και πως θα αντιδρούσες οταν αυτά τα δώρα στα προσφέρει κάποιος με τη μορφή του Σατανα;

 Φαντασμαγορικό, αλλά δύσκολο να μπορεί να δοθεί ο προβληματισμός της νουβέλας σε ενα τηλεοπτικό adaptation που αφιερώνει απίστευτα πολύ χρόνο στον γήινο αντιπρόσωπο των Overlords Ricky.Δείτε και τα τρία μέρη μαζί για να μπείτε στο κλίμα. Καλή δουλειά αλλά.....
